Leonard Bernstein - Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
A suite taken from his modern Romeo and Juliet. Bernstein uses dissonant music and syncopation to create conflict, tension and expectancy in this very popular work. I try to capture these devices in my painting by using clashing colors and irregular squares.

Anne Kavanagh

Anne Kavanagh is best known for her painted music in which she employs her ability to hear sound in color. This gift is called "Synesthesia." She has given many lectures and demonstrations on the connection between color and music. Her paintings of music are usually done in watercolor. When a collector purchases one of these works, Anne gives them a CD of the composition to enjoy with the painting. Anne also creates realistic works such as her French and Italian village collections. These paintings are either oil or watercolor. Anne started painting as a child when her grandfather who was an artist gave her a box of oils. She studied art in college and is currently taking lessons in the old master's technique of working in oils and varnishes.
